“Arrow” Season 5 Major Spoilers: Laurel Lance, a.k.a. Black Canary, Alive And Officially Back In Mid-Season Finale?

CW's "Arrow" Season 5 mid-season finale entitled "What We Leave Behind", utterly brought a shock to the fans as the already dead character of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) from season four is actually alive. Episode nine of the season puts Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) in a very difficult situation amidst fight scenes with Prometheus, including the latter's improbable twist. But what produced a momentous mid-season finale was the shocking comeback of Laurel, who was supposedly dead from season four. Back then, she was stabbed by Damien Darhk and soon after, she flat-lined in the hospital.

Speculations have been arising, however, that the Laurel who appeared is not the actual Laurel Lance, as per executive producer, Marc Guggenheim's initial statement that Earth-1 Laurel is and will remain dead. Due to the occurrence that Black Siren, Laurel's Earth-2 doppelganger, appeared on "The Flash" last season, which was also portrayed by Cassidy, it is not stubborn for fans to believe that there could be a twist regarding this return.

In spite of all this, Movie Plot has presented several reasons as to how Laurel's appearance is indeed her very own self. This includes executive producer, Wendy Mericle's statement confirming Cassidy's return on the mid-season premiere of the show. She reveals this during an interview, saying, "I can definitely tell you that there's a way we're going to bring her back and she's going to be alive and well. And Flashpoint might have a little bit to do with that."

Furthermore, lead actor Stephen Amell also speaks about Laurel's comeback through a Facebook Live appearance, as reported by the International Business Times. He expressed that he himself was surprised upon reading the script of the mid-season finale, adding that this is a "very cool development". He further acclaims the return of Laurel, who also plays the heroine, Black Canary, saying that the character "is easily the most important feature next to the Green Arrow."

Laurel Lance appears in the closing hour of the episode, uttering the words "Hi, Olllie", which made fans a little more excited for the mid-season premiere. Season 5 episode 10 will return on January 20, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
