PDP Governors Set To Abandon Party for Ali Modu-Sheriff......See Details

According to an exclusive report by The Authority, some governors and stakeholders in the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are planning to abandon the party to the embattled former National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, since the efforts to resolve the crisis bedevilling the party had failed, and form another party.

Even though sources claimed that the two parties were still meeting on how to resolve the crisis, some stakeholders and governors, it was gathered, were no longer comfortable with the development, hence their plan to form another party in order to move on. Sheriff’s camp, which has already gotten wind of the plan by the governors and the stakeholders, has threatened to take legal action against the governors.

A member of the Sheriff’s camp told our correspondent that if the governors go ahead with the move, they would have serious issues to contend with in court.

“If the governors should try it, they will have serious issues to contend with in court. We will take them to court,” he said.

Recall that since the leadership crisis begun, the party’s national secretariat was closed for the past four months and about 18 court cases had dogged the party within the period.

The PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) had because of the crisis inaugurated a reconciliation committee, which had met with Sheriff and his members on how to address the crisis in the party.

Sheriff on the other hand has given conditions for the crisis to be resolved; one of them is that the party recognizes him as the chairman and sack the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee, which according to them, is illegal.

He also demanded that he should be allowed to chair the PDP’s forthcoming National Convention and handle other sundry issues.
