Man ‘Raped His Friend’ Then ‘Sent Her A Sad Face Emoji On WhatsApp’

Ryan Falconer, 24, is accused of raping the complainant, a 21-year-old woman who cannot be named for legal reasons, at her parents’ home in Bradford.



The two had met and struck up a friendship a few years earlier, and would often chat to each other on WhatsApp, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Despite Falconer being in a relationship and having a young son, he often sent the then-20-year-old suggestive texts, asking her to send him naked photos and to give him oral sex.

Although she sometimes flirted back she would usually fob him off, the court heard, because she didn’t fancy Falconer and thought of him as just a friend.

On the evening of May 16 last year, the young woman invited Falconer to her home where she lived with her parents.
The jury heard he arrived at around 8.45pm and the two went to the girl’s bedroom, where the alleged rape happened.

Falconer had sex with the woman after pulling her on top of him, despite her repeatedly saying ‘No, I don’t want to, stop, get off me,’ the woman told the court.
She said she asked him to leave just before 10pm, and then Googled ‘I think I have just been raped’ and ‘was it rape’.

The woman told the court she didn’t shout for help because she ‘just froze. I kept saying no – and you don’t want your parents to see you getting raped’.
She then sent Falconer a message on WhatsApp saying ‘U don’t understand how upset I am’, to which he replied ‘Me too :/ I’m sorry, don’t want our friendship ruined’.

She then said ‘I told you I didn’t/couldn’t do it and you did it anyway’. He replied: ‘I’m sorry ;( I feel bad’.

He also told her to ‘focus on the good you’ve got’, to which she responded: ‘Focus on the good? It’s like I’ve just been raped Ryan.’
Falconer denies rape and sexual assault and insists the sex was consensual.

The trial, which is expected to conclude this week, continues.
